500 Otto Bulloni

500 Otto Bulloni

1939

History

After a number of primarily experimental models built in 1933 and 1934, the overhead valve engine, identified by the initials VT, finally entered standard production in 1935. The first engine was usually known as the "quattro bulloni" (four bolts) and subsequently the "otto bulloni" (eight bolts) from the number of studs that anchored the base of the cylinder to the engine casing. The single cylinder models in the VT series represented a moment of great success for Gilera, before the launch of the Saturno in 1940.
