History

Launched in March 1959 to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of Gilera’s brand, the Giubileo range has reduced displacement (98 cc) and a smaller size compared to the previous models, such as Saturno and Nettuno, nevertheless with important innovations: the camshaft cylinder and the bars for the valve control are on the left instead of the right, the lower part of the oil carter has a wide longitudinal thread for a better cooling. the Giubileo 98 is sold in 1959 at a price of £ 140,000, which is more reasonable than other motorcycles, such as Gilera 175 Sport (£ 224,000), and has sports qualities which are proved by the numerous victories, among which the prestigious triumph at the “International Six Days” in 1960. Furthermore, the Giubileo in its various versions (Extra, Red, Sport, Sei Giorni) conquers a sale records: almost 60,000 pieces.
